WORDPRESS 7.2

5 WordPress 7.2 Features Coming in December 2026

Beta 1 lands October 20, 2026. Here's what's planned for the next WordPress core release.

NEW DEFAULT THEME

Ipsum Ends Year-Based Theme Names

WordPress 7.2 ships Ipsum, a minimal new default theme that closes out the Twenty-Something naming era started in 2010.

COLLABORATIVE EDITING

Suggestion Mode Comes to Notes

Editors can propose changes inside Notes for an author to accept or reject, without touching the live post.

NO-CODE STYLING

Global Styles Now Covers Forms

Buttons, text fields, dropdowns, and labels get full Global Styles control, so forms match your theme without custom CSS.

NEW BLOCKS

Description List & Table of Contents Blocks

Two long-requested blocks join core: a Description List block for term pairs, and a native Table of Contents block.

SECURITY HARDENING

A Secrets API and Sudo Mode

WordPress 7.2 adds a Secrets API for storing credentials safely, plus early sudo-mode re-authentication for sensitive actions.
